Blank Spaces
Blank Spaces hails from London and records everything to tape in his small bedroom based analogue studio. In preparation for the release of their debut EP ‘Start’ on Popular Recordings, Blank Spaces is offering up his off-kilter, blissed out pop in the form of free download, ‘Hold Fast’.
With guitar being the only self-proclaimed “instrument I’m ok at, I muddle through the rest to make the recordings”, Blank Spaces, is a self-recorded project, with the vision of taking David Byrne’s ‘Psycho Killer’ over 808 beats at the beginning of Stop Making Sense, and mixing it with New Order’s ‘Age Of Consent’ and ‘Johnny & Mary’ by Robert Palmes.
A slow-burning indie gem, skewing between dream-like choruses and verses characterised by interlocking bass and drums and crooned vocals. 'Hold Fast,' certainly seems a suitable title; it's the perfect soundtrack for late night driving.
Available to download now from the Blank Spaces band camp ‘Hold Fast’ will be followed by the January 2012 release of debut EP ‘Start’ on Popular Recordings. You can also catch the band at their next show on November 10th at Electricity Showrooms, London.

Wild Palms
Wild Palms are Lou Hill (Vocal, keys & pads), Darrell Hawkins (Guitar), Gareth Jones (Bass) and James Parish (Drums).
Wild Palms were the first band EVER to join Popular so they are very close to our hearts here. They play bleak, post-industrial Bauhaus inspired driving basslines, abrasive guitars and stringent yet powerful lead vocals. This results in the band emerging as a ferocious, four-headed beast melding deconstructed guitar lines and Parish’s thundering rhythms to Hill’s staccato wordplay.
Since forming in 2008, the band have signed to One Little Indian and have played alongside the likes of Gang of Four and have toured with Cold War Kids, Good Shoes, The Warlocks and The Big Pink around both the UK and Europe as well as playing many festivals. The bands debut album, Until Spring, produced by Gareth Jones (also produced Wire and Depeche Mode) drew influences and noise from obscurities such as a 30ft water tank and was written, recorded and produced in the bands self built studio. The album was released in March 2011 and received glowing reviews from Artrocker, Q magazine, The Fly, Clash and The 405.
